At ZIAN Kiteboarding, we believe in quality so much that we built our own factory: Velumtec Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, located in Sri Lanka. Recognising the critical importance of the production process, we took the manufacturing of our kites into our own hands to ensure the absolute highest-quality products possible.
Opening its doors in 2014, Velumtec Lanka was the brainchild of ZIAN’s founder, Robert Berends, who spent over half a decade as CEO of one of the world’s largest kiteboarding and windsurfing sail manufactures. Through innovative design and manufacturing excellence, our state-of-the-art facility is one of the key players in the industry.
Highly experienced in kite production, Velumtec Lanka’s team of 60 employees is rapidly growing. The factory features a Lectra Vector 2500 computerised cutting machine, along with cutting-edge custom computer-controlled sewing machines to ensure precise, efficient stitching. Before any kite leaves the factory, it undergoes thorough and rigorous testing by our dedicated quality-assurance inspectors!
Sakai Techfibre (Japan) is home in the top end acrobatic paraglider and spinnaker fabrics which are manufactured exclusively by Sakai Ovex in Japan. For their SBS101 double ripstop kite canopy they use high tenacity polyester yarn manufactured by Toray Japan exclusively for Techfibre. Toray Japan is a multinational corporation specialized in polymer chemistry. This makes SBS101 the ONLY full Japanese canopy on the market. The canopy production is based on a new process that gives multiple benefits over conventional canopy. The quality consistency from batch to batch is of a level we have not seen before. Special attention is taken to avoid “chalking” of the canopy after some use, a visual problem seen on many kites on the market. Rather than one sided coating, SBS101 has adopted a double sided multilayer coating technology for longer airproof canopy
